Central Park

Well kittens, I’ve gone and done it, I’m a married woman! I had a complete blast the two weeks I took off of work for the wedding and honeymoon and I couldn’t have asked for anything better. It was all so fun!! The wedding itself was magical and even better than I’d hoped for, and as I’m writing this out I’m finding it’s hard to express in words how great it all was… I guess we’ll have to post some pics as proof for those that weren’t there. But not yet!

This week you get a little peak at our honeymoon to New York (J & J in the big city!)

We took these pics in Central Park, at dusk. Every day I kept telling John to remind me to take outfit pics for the blog, and every day I’d forget, he’d forget, we were having too much fun!

We spent time at some NYC classics like the MoMA (which was outstanding!) and here at Central Park. We did tons of walking around, braved cabbies and the subway, dined in fancy hipster restaurants and ate some street meat, lounged in our AMAZING Ace Hotel loft room (they upgraded us for free!! We learned how to milk our honeymoon status.) And a highlight for me was watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer in a movie theater at midnight. It may not sound glamorous or romantic but for us it was exactly that. What a treat!

Throughout our week we also managed to stumble into a reasonably priced vintage store here and there, which is where I got this very dress and booties. Surprisingly the booties were great for strolling with my honey (I use the word strolling lightly. He’s so tall that in order for me to keep up with him “strolling” I practically have to break into a run… But we figured it out, we always do!) It’s rare that I can buy any piece of clothing without needing to alter it in some way and this vintage dress wasn’t any different. I made John run to a convenience store to pick up a pair of scissors so I could wear my new dress. Don’t feel sorry for him, he knew what he was getting into when he married me!
Since we love to shop (he does too; it’s not just me, I swear) we stopped by the Swatch store on our way to MoMA and picked up some his & hers Swatch watches. Pretty geeky, but that’s our idea of living it up!

Although we may not be ready to be back to reality, our cats sure are glad to have us home. Look out for some snaps of the wedding and honeymoon coming up in the blog soon!

Pumpkin Patch Party

Hi Kitties!

So technically it’s not my turn for an outfit post, but my lovely co-captain blog heroine Jessi is gone away on her honeymoon! That’s right: the wedding was last weekend and now she’s living it up with her new husband for the week. Bonus perk for being the maid of honor: I got the leftover macaroons since they couldn’t take them along! Anyway, look for a couple fun posts to come all about the Best Wedding Ever; for now, though, it’s just little ol’ me at an apple orchard/pumpkin patch:

Charlie, Joe and I took a little day trip up north to Center Grove Orchard a couple weekends ago. I’ve been to probably 3 others over the years and this one is the best. Although maybe I only say that because we now have a little crazy boy running around to make it more fun. He fed goats, pointed at pigs, road a little tractor, jumped in a pool of corn, and picked out two little Charlie-sized pumpkins to take home.

I’ve wanted to put a sweater over this dress since I bought it back in the spring, but could never find a sweater that didn’t just add bulk to my ensemble. I think we have a winner! I’ve had this unicorn sweater since college; I distinctly remember spilling red wine on it while watching Wet Hot American Summer on fall break in fact. Oh the memories! Luckily that wine came out and I can still wear this beauty years later.

We’ve had a super busy couple of weeks! In addition to the Big Wedding, Charlie turned two on Tuesday (Twosday?) so Joe and I threw him a little Glow-in-the-Dark Birthday Party with just the three of us. We had his favorite foods for dinner (shells & cheese, pickles, and blueberries in Rice Krispies), opened some gifts, played with glow sticks, and now he’s been happily going to bed with a different race car every night.

Cute and Creepy Carousel Time

It may have taken us until the end of the summer to make it to this lovely carousel while it was actually open, but we did it!! After a few failed attempts we finally got to ride the cute (and creepy) animals and listen to crazy circus music. It was great!
I got this dress at Hill Vintage, my favorite vintage store in Des Moines. Hill Vintage is run by two of Des Moines absolute finest ladies with impeccable taste in fashion and a deep love for cats. What more could you ask for?? I have to say this dress would normally be a little on the long side for my taste- I usually like to tart it up in the summer while its hot hot hot outside. But this fabric is so thin it more than makes up for the longer than desirable length. It’s also flowy enough that I had no problem hopping onto the carousel animals. I’m guessing that when most people know they’ll be hopping onto a carousel ride and taking pictures they might decide to dress more practically, but not this girl! And I’m not alone, check out Marlena’s post later this week for her carousel pics…

I have to say, my favorite accessory of late is my new lunar phases tattoo! I’ll have it forever, I know, but it’s new enough that I’m still excited about it. My new tattoo aside you may remember these sunnies from a DIY Mar and I did this summer. Pretty cute and functional!
I don’t usually pull my sandals out unless I’m going to the pool.* But I’m often in the habit of missing things before they are gone, and since it’s the end of summer I wanted to seize my sandal-wearing opportunities before they are gone to cold rainy days and eventually snow. Sigh… And just because it’s now officially fall doesn’t mean we can’t keep dressing like it’s summer, right?!

*Just a little unsolicited fashion advice from boyfriend via Vice Magazine where one person once said they thought all sandals were ugly and it stuck with me. I can be extremely influenced. Ah!
