Short and sweet (like my crop top)

I am happy to report that I’m not sick anymoreeeeeee! I know 99.9% of you crazy cats didn’t even know I was sick but oh man. I was! It all started last weekend when my son was hit by the stomach flu in the middle of a Cheesecake Factory (being a mom can be so glamorous!) and then it hit me 4 days later. Anyway, I’m not going to let you in on the beautiful details, but please know I am feeling more alive and energized than I have in a few days and it feels goooood!

So anyway, these photos were taken awhile ago (proof: where’s the snow?) but I have to say I may need to pull this outfit out again. Polka dots on polka dots are always a good idea!

A Little Lace Dress

I had been keeping my eye on this dress at Target for a couple of months. As in, I would walk past it, think “oh that’s cute,” and then promptly forget about it and go buy more toilet paper. Then the other day I was actually sans husband and toddler and had time to try some stuff on! I had fun styling this dress because the entire day I was painting our kitchen cabinets in an old t-shirt and yoga pants. When Jessi asked if we wanted to hit up First Friday in Des Moines’ East Village that night, I was all about it. Another reason I was so excited about this dress is the scoop neckline goes perfect with a sleeveless collared top.

I picked this necklace up at Hill Vintage awhile back, and my son loves munching on it. Even now, after all his teeth have come in….

Of course my night got much sweeter when Joe bought me this perfect Dear Creatures dress at Vitae Design Collective for all of my hard work with my painting adventures! You’ll see my take on it soon!

I Don’t Like Ice Cream… I Love Love Love it!!

Ahhhhh, Snookies season is upon us and, pretty kitties, I couldn’t be happier about that! The hubs-to-be and I have already hit up our favorite ice cream joint a handful of times since its opened for the summer, so when Mar suggested pairing her adorbs ice cream dress with an ice cream date I couldn’t say no.

I recently snagged these super high waisted shorts from Salvation Army, and I was a little on the fence about them, but John gave me major thumbs up so I’ve been embracing my inner 90’s mom and rocking them with pride. High school me would be incredibly horrified about my tendency towards high waisted fashion in my old age, but what can I say, I’m a convert!

I love this horsey button up. It’s super thin and therefore very appropriate for this lovely spring wether. My very talented friend Jes, of Big Button Archive, gave me this adorable strawberry ring that she made, and my earrings were made by another talented friend, Ms. Ramona Muse. Cuteness!

I’ve been listening to the new Camera Obscura album all week- it’s been streaming for free on NPR and I love it! Marlena and I will see them later this summer when we see She and Him and I’m so excited!! Both bands are simply perfect to listen to at this time of the year. Now I’m just waiting for my neighborhood pool to open and summer will really be in full swing!

Ice Cream Dress on an Ice Cream Day

Right when I saw this dress at Forever 21 I knew it was mine. Ice cream? On a dress? C’mon people. It doesn’t get much sweeter than this (wocka wocka!). And what better way to wear this dress than to our favorite ice cream shop? Ohhhh it’s just too much!

These sunglasses look like they used to belong to a little lovely old lady but la di da, they are from Target. And my golden oxfords are reappearing as they are my go-to shoe lately.

Joe gave me my Charlie necklace for our first Mother’s Day. I adore it but Charlie broke it a couple months ago. Luckily all I needed was a new jump ring and it is good as new.

Why are you still reading? Go get some ice cream already!

Partyyyy Time

photo(68)

If you know me well, and even if you don’t, you know that I love my birthday!! Birthday week as a whole was really amazing for me this year, and the best part was definitely the birthday party John and I threw at our place. Lemme tell you kittens, it did not disappoint! I had a great time, as did the guests. There was food, friends, music, dancing, presents (!!!) and of course the AHMAZING cat party hats that Marlena made. Check out the DIY to see what I’m talking about.
During the party John got out his old camcorder and secretly pulled friends aside to have them record birthday messages for me Real World confessional style. It was such a fun treat to watch the next morning! It was all so much fun I almost forgot that I even turned 30 🙂

I love this lil party number I picked up at Forever21. Sizing at Forever21 can definitely be a little discouraging. Sometimes I’m a small and sometimes I can’t even squeeze into a large… This dress has a nice poufy skirt which I assumed would be no problem, but once I got it on the lining inside was so tiny I couldn’t fit it over my hips. I bought the dress anyway and promptly cut out the unnecessary lining and voila! Problem solved.
I’ve been waiting for a purrrrrfect occasion to break out these bow tights and they did not disappoint. They felt right at home under this dress adorned with bows at the hip. I thought these shoes would be new favorites but after wearing them for a whole night I’m not so sure. My feet and calves were paying for all the dancing done in those pretty shoes, but (almost) worth it, I’d say!
All the jewelry worn were presents given to me throughout the night. During party preparations I forgot to accessorize, but that turned out to be no problem at all. Thanks friends!

P.s. I can’t forget to mention Gladys the goose! Doesn’t she look pretty sitting there in the corner? She was definitely a hit of the night.

Hi there, Marlena here! We decided to do our outfit post together this week: and I have to say that even though our pics are a bit lower in quality (I mean, our main light source was a goose) they are a bit higher in fun! Haha, that sounds cheesy but it’s true. Anyway,  I absolutely love John and Jessi’s parties: they never disappoint, and this time was no exception! Between the dancing, the cheese ball, and the awful strawberry whiskey, I had a wonderful time; I mean it ended with me begging my husband to let me spend the night! (He reasonably said no.)

I just bought this dress at Urban Outfitters when we were in Omaha during one of those “clearance-is-on-clearance” sales. I like to think I saved this dress from the shredder. Or Marshall’s. It has a lot of the best things I look for in a dress: stripes, sweetheart neckline, cut out back, and pockets! I went the nautical route by adding my red bow belt and blue flats. I must have been too excited for the party because I, like Jessi, totally forgot about jewelry! Woops.

Well, happy birthday again to my lovely blogger bestie!

Feelin’ Nautical

Lately I’ve been loving all things nautical, and just my luck it seems to be very in this season! I found this anchor top at forever 21 and it was love at first sight. I love that it’s sleeveless, it’s got snappy buttons and is long enough to tuck into my jeans. Winner!

My scarf collection is totally out of control, and very often I’ll forget about certain scarves that I once loved. This one was buried deep but I pulled it from the trenches and it’s now back in rotation. I wrapped the scarf around my head and simply tied at knot at the top, which happens to look like a bow. A happy accident!

I’ve had these shoes forever, probably since high school, but they don’t get much action because they are nearly impossible to walk in. Sad but true. They’re vintage and the heels are super wobbly so they mostly sit in my closet looking pretty.

John took these pics for me at the beginning of birthday week, so stayed tuned for later this week when Mar and I post our very special birthday party outfits, the most amazing DIY ever (!) and some of the yummy food from the b-day festivities.

XOXO!
