Here’s my take on the dress Marlena styled a few days ago! At Here Pretty Kitty we love layers and I decided to go for an old Jessi classic: throw a sweater on over a dress! While a cardigan over a dress is very practical it’s also very obvious, and I wanted to mix things up a bit! I don’t have a lot of yellow in my wardrobe but I noticed the yellow in this super cute Lularoe dress matched pretty perfectly with this great vintage sweater I so often forget about. A match made in heaven! This dress is SO comfortable and I really love the length. Trust me, I have plenty of short skirts and dresses in my closet, so the extra booty coverage is a welcome change! I actually can’t wait to bust this dress out on a beautiful spring day with sandals and bare arms. BUT none of that is happening in February in Iowa.
I’m a sucker for matching a brown belt with brown shoes, but took a detour from my usual brown booties for these wooden heels. Honestly guys, they are much easier to walk in than it looks!
Not to be cheesy, but I think all I’m missing from this yellow look is a little sunshine, amiright?!! To put a positive spin on the dreary, cold days we’ve been having I’m currently weighing which of my favorite indoor activities to partake in: cat cuddling, bad reality tv time, snacking, napping…. Everything?!
Be sure to check back because we’ve got a lot happening on the blog this week, including celebrating our 2nd blogiversary. Yay!!
Well, 10 inches of snow is falling outside right now so we thought we’d daydream about what we’d wear if it were spring!

Think Spring, Kitties, while you don those cute snowsuits!
Something I’ve really come to love is a crop top. Trust me, this is a surprise even to me, but a welcome one! Since it’s not the 90’s anymore I’ve learned there are numerous ways to style a crop, and in fact the trend goes hand in hand with my love of all things high-waisted. I’m super excited about this cranberry cropped sweater courtesy of Shopbop! While navigating their site this popped out at me right away due to the striking color. Plus it looked warm and cozy, so score! Let me tell you kitties, this sweater is soooo comfy! It’s warm and fuzzy and not itchy at all. It’s actually a little more cropped than I usually like, so instead of pairing it with a high waisted skirt I threw it over one of my favorite polka-dot dresses. This dress is normally a summer staple but works perfectly with a sweater. I pulled out another old favorite for this look, these tapestry shoes! I love these heels dearly, but since they are pretty unique they don’t get a lot of action in my every day life.
We shot these pictures on a Sunday
, before the husband and I went out to brunch. Now, if you know me at all you know I luvvv a good brunch. And since I’ve been extra busy it was the best feeling to sleep in, spend a little extra time getting ready and feeling lovely and heading to brunch with my honey. I ordered croque madame bread pudding (yummmm!) and John and I split lemon-blueberry pancakes. It was decadent and just what I needed. Maybe I’m crazy but I love getting a lil’ dressed up for brunch; is anyone else on the same page as me? If so I highly recommend checking out Shopbop for a cute little dress
or darling skirt
Happy new year kittens! I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m ringing in the new year busy as a bee. I’ve started another job (!!!) that is totally different from anything I’ve ever done before and it’s great and exhausting. The dress code for my new job is suuuuuper casual, so leggings, a big t-shirt and comfy hoodie have been my recent uniform. That means that putting on a skirt, fun tights and a pair of booties has some novelty for me!
This polka dot skirt has been a wardrobe staple for me since I unearthed it from a garage sale last summer. For the rest of this outfit though, I dug into the depths of my closet for some old favorites. These mint green tights don’t often make an appearance in my life, but I keep them around just in case. I’ve found they add a perfect pop of color to a drab winter day.
I’ve had this lil sweatshirt for years and it was hiding in a plastic bin shoved in the back of my closet. It was a little big for this high waisted skirt so I tied a side knot and voila!
Here’s a fun fact: this gold headband I’m wearing is not actually a headband but all, but instead gold gift-wrap ribbon that I tie around my head and call a headband. Genius or crazy?!
I, for one, had a pretty great holiday season full of friends, family, food, gifts and wine! By the time New Years Eve hit I was partied out and gathered two of my besties to ring in the new year with me by eating takeout and watching the ball drop on TV. Newsflash: I’m officially old!

Happy Holidays! Now can someone tell our husbands that this exists and we want everything on it?
The hubs and I don’t always get weekends off together, but we recently had a Sunday to ourselves and took full advantage of the situation. This means that we slept in late, stuffed ourselves with brunch and went to a movie matinee. Sooooo pretty much my perfect day!
There is almost nothing I love more than a good brunch on the weekends. I mean, at no other time is it appropriate to accompany Mac and Cheese with Biscuits and Gravy (my fav combo), plus a refreshing mimosa AND hot cup of tea, and don’t forget pastries! Brunch is where I hope to go when I die… So I’m sure you can imagine my delight when John agreed to hit up our favorite brunch spot on a rare Sunday off. I threw on this little number and coerced him to take my pictures, post brunch, in the sculpture garden downtown.
I’m obsessed with this top I recently got from American Apparel. The colors are super eye-catching and I love a good geometric print. The fabric is really stretchy and it’s a warm little crop top for winter! I’ve been pairing it with everything that I can, from high-waisted skirts to this mint, peter-pan collared dress. I’ve been so into crop tops recently and they transition nicely from summer to fall to winter when topped off over a dress.
We took these pictures right before it got to be unbearably cold and I was able to be jacket-less for what will probably be the last time in months. So many tears…
We kept the rest of the day very chill and saw the movie Nightcrawler (anyone seen it?) It was fantastic, especially if you love to see Mr. Gyllenhaal do his thing, and who doesn’t love that?

Just wanna make sure y’all catch my Friday Night Lights reference there in the title? I think one of my favorite parts about visiting Texas is the fact that I got to tag all my Instagram pics #texasforever. If you don’t know what I’m talking about Netflix the show already, alright?!
Here is the glorious dress I bought for the wedding of one of my very dear BFFs. At the very end of this post you’ll see a picture of the gorgeous bride, but first check me out! I got this vintage inspired dress from Hello Holiday, an online store based out of Omaha very near to us in here in the Midwest. I love the colors, the fit, the pockets! It’s an exceptional dress and the quality is outstanding as well. Overall a great party dress and I got tons of compliments (yay!)
The day of the wedding we got our hair done, and I knew ahead of time I wanted some big Texas hair. Since I keep my hair short I wasn’t sure how big we could go but thanks to the help of some magical texture powder and teasing my hair like crazy I got some cute hair to go with my cute dress. Success!
I have to say I love a good wedding, and kitties, this was one of the best! The ceremony was very beautiful and magical and I was bursting with joy for my friends. And after the ceremony I was bursting with joy because of all the delicious food that accompanied the reception! We’re talking mini grilled cheeses, stuffed mushrooms, a food truck with gourmet sliders annnnnnd a Poutine station! Oh wait, did I mention 4 different cakes and handmade Popsicles?! I mean, heaven on earth, for real.
Be sure to check out the pictures at the end of this post for a peek at the bride and a group shot of me and my two oldest friends and the men we’ve gathered along the way!

If I look particularly happy in these photos it’s because… I am! Mar and I went out on a hot and sunny August day just as I was recovering from a nasty summer cold. Colds should most definitely be reserved for when the temperature dips wayyy down and chicken soup and blanks make sense. A summer cold when it’s 90 degrees outside is just too confusing to handle! Since I’d spent a few days before moping around the house with a fever and trail of Kleenex I was pretty excited to spend some time making myself pretty. I dyed and curled my hair, trimmed my bangs, painted my toenails, slipped on this new-to-me skirt and felt fabulous!
Since summer is nearing its end (sigh sigh sigh) I try daily to make the most out of my summer wardrobe. That means brightly colored skirts, crop tops and tank tops and sandals, oh my! I want to show off my tattoos while I can before they’re soon to be covered with long sleeves and sweaters, and, spoiler alert: I got another tattoo today and I think you guys are gonna like it! Check back in a couple of weeks to see the big reveal.
I got this skirt from a friend’s garage sale and let me tell you, this garage sale was a dream come true! Seriously, piles and piles of rad vintage clothes for extremely low prices. It’s not even fair to call it a garage sale, although it did take place out of a garage… But it’s most like a super fun vintage pop-up shop run by my friends a few blocks from my house. Winning!
While I’m still loving summer I am getting the fall fashion bug. The release of fall magazines is one of my FAVORITE parts of the year. The fashion! The TV shows! The music! Bust and Nylon are my top picks, year after year they never disappoint. I’m gonna try and live in the moment but come on, I know y’all are excited for fall fashion too!
